When Dr. Sara Bruins was hired last summer to lead the academic program at Kennedy Catholic, no one could predict the unique first semester that would follow. The fall of 2020 has certainly been one for the history books, but thanks to the solid leadership of Dr. Bruins, Lancers are staying strong through distance learning.

Dr. Bruins came to Kennedy Catholic with nearly two decades of experience in school administration. Most recently, she served as the Assistant Principal of Academics at Central Catholic High School in Portland, Oregon. She is a passionate educator who began her post doctorate career in public special education. She is “humbled to have become a part of the Kennedy Catholic community” and is “looking forward to working beside students and families in pursuing a positive, rigorous, faith-based educational experience.”

In her spare time, Dr. Bruins volunteers with Mariposa DR Foundation. She travels to Cabarete, Dominican Republic two times per year and has taken over 100 high school girls on summer service trips since 2013. Currently, her own two daughters are in the Dominican Republic studying remotely with Portland State University.

We are grateful for the wealth of experience, and leadership Dr. Bruins brings to Kennedy Catholic. The robust distance learning plan she has implemented is proof that our faculty and students are resilient and ready to learn!
