How did you get involved in school admissions?
I started working in education in 2003. I spent three years in early education, and then eight years in private elementary education, and then took a few years off while two of my girls were in high school. When I decided it was time to return back into the workforce, I immediately knew that I wanted to do something in education, I just didn’t know what. I love talking, meeting new people, and sharing my passion about education, especially private education. So, working in admissions seemed like a good and natural fit.

What has been your favorite part about working at Kennedy Catholic so far?
We have, by far, the most amazing school community. We all share the same vision for our students, which is to educate and guide these young people to become amazing leaders and accomplish great things in life. We all share that goal for our kids, and that is one of my favorite things about working here.

What’s a recent challenge you had, and how did you overcome it?
Working remote alone has definitely been a challenge for me, because I am definitely a social person. I was only in this role for a couple of weeks before COVID-19 closed all of our schools, so learning the ins and outs of a new position while going completely remote has been very interesting, and definitely unprecedented, but I’ve also found it to be very rewarding. I didn’t really know what I was capable of doing until I had to figure it out. It was a huge challenge, and I thrived off of it. That’s been fun for me. I love a good challenge!

How has social distancing changed your work?
I am not really good at finding the balance between my home and work life because it is so combined right now. I’ve always been a person who tries not to bring work home, and right now my work is in my home. But I’ve also had to become really creative at what I do by learning to reach out to families in a whole new way and communicate in a whole new way. There’s been some interesting challenges, but nothing that we can’t overcome.

What are you looking forward to in your new position?
I am really looking forward to getting back on campus and starting the new year of meeting families, meeting students in person again, being able to take people on tours again, and being able to share my passion; telling the story of what a great school we have. I miss being able to go to the middle schools and visit the students. I really love that part of the job because we see hundreds and hundreds of names, and when I visit, I am able to match the name to a face. I am very excited to meet our new students when they’re on campus as freshmen for the first time!

Outside of work, what are you passionate about?
I am most passionate about time. I have teenage adult daughters, and right now, I am so thankful for the time we’ve been in quarantine all together, because I know this is time together I normally wouldn’t get. I’ve got two daughters in college; one is a junior in high school. My middle daughter was studying in Germany, so we hadn’t seen her in a long time, now she’s back. It seems crazy, but you always hear that time with your kids goes by super-fast, and you don’t realize how fast until they’re adults. I love that we are eating at the table as a family again, which we haven’t done in years, since they were little!
