Every year, Kennedy Catholic’s Saint Vincent de Paul club organizes the school’s Adopt-A-Family Christmas giving program. In regular times, teachers work with their homeroom students to gather gifts and money to help families in need during the holidays and also purchase gifts for kids at the King County Regional Juvenile Justice Center.

In the ‘now’ times, we relied on the generosity and giving spirits of all the Lancer Family to pull together and create some Christmas magic. The outpouring was overwhelming! Even though they couldn’t be here in person, Lancers certainly showed up!

Families dropped off gifts, sent in checks, Venmo'd money and made sure there was plenty of beautiful wrapping paper and ribbon to ensure families and children in our community didn't go without Christmas. And the elves… Faculty and staff gave volunteered their time to wrap, organize, and do some extra shopping to fulfil some special requests.

The chapel was filled with nearly 500 gifts for the 21 families we adopted and thanks to the abundance of support, we were also able to purchase $200 gift cards for each family for groceries and Christmas dinner. Children at the King County Regional Juvenile Justice Center all received snacks, toiletries and Nike sweatshirts and basketball shoes.

We wanted to share some of the thank you messages we received - these were meant for all of you.

A Thank You Letter From a Volunteer at St. Stephen the Martyr Conference

Dear Lancers,

First, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to you, all the teachers, parents and students of Kennedy Catholic.  Your unconditional willingness to help our neighbors in need is unprecedented. This is my 4th year of being involved with the Kennedy Catholic Adopt-A-Family program and my 2nd year in picking up the gifts and I am still overwhelmed with the love and care everyone has put in. This year it was more profound and humbling to walk in the chapel and pick up the gifts and have a one-on-one conversation with some of you. I can’t put into words how I felt when I was led to the chapel. Seeing all the gifts laid out and the silence and serenity the chapel gave me hope, faith and trust that everything will be alright and there’s still good in mankind. I left Kennedy Catholic with my heart bursting with gratitude and love. Thank you for that.

Both families who received the kindness, love and care were overwhelmed when the bags and boxes that kept coming. Two kids from one of the families were jumping with joy in their PJ’s. A Dad was very surprised with abundance of gifts they were blessed to receive. . Both moms were grateful to have Christmas dinner taken care of. I wish I could share with you and the rest of the Kennedy Catholic Family the happiness from the families when we delivered the gifts and expression of relief from the mom’s when we hand them the envelope.

On behalf of St. Stephen the Martyr Conference we are thankful to partner up with Kennedy Catholic in bringing hope, joy and love to our neighbors in need.

Sincerely,

St. Stephen the Martyr Conference
