Each year, the class votes to have one of their own address the class. This year, Angel John was voted to make this special speech to the Class of 2020. Her speech is below.

I would like to first have a moment of silence for those we have lost. May we always hold Natalie Gulizia, Mr. Behrends, and all those who have passed close to our hearts.

We’re finally here. We made it! Congratulations for all the hours dedicated to developing your academics, participating in clubs, community service, athletics, endeavors in the arts, and more. All your efforts do not go unnoticed. This is a celebration of you. Thank you to our teachers and Kennedy Staff who support us, guide us, love us, and push us to be better. Thank you to our parents for all the sacrifices made to ensure our success.

Class of 2020, we entered this world during a time of uncertainty, and here we are 18 years later accomplishing a milestone in the midst of trying times. Despite the hardships that come our way, we rise. We are a class, we are a generation emulating resilience. Maya Angelou once said, “You may not control all the events that happen to you, but you can decide not to be reduced by them.” And that just what we have done and will continue to do.

In today’s Gospel, we are remined of Jesus’ greatest commandment: Love your neighbor as yourself. As we transition into the next season of our lives, I encourage you to root all of your being and all that you do in love. For it has the power to transform lives. A quote I live by was delivered by Martin Luther King Jr. He stated that “Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that”. Be a force of peace and empathy because that is what this world needs.

Thank you for allowing me the privilege to serve you this year. I am honored to have grown with you all these past four years. I am so grateful for each and every one of you. I appreciate all that you are, all that you have accomplished, and all that you are destined to be.

Own who you are because you are wonderfully and beautifully made.

Stand in your truth because there is power in your story.

Trust God’s plan for you, He makes the impossible and possible and advocates for our success.

And most of all, enjoy every moment of your life because it is truly a blessing.
