TLT: Think First, Love Second, Talk Third
At Kennedy Catholic High School, we believe in building a community rooted in respect, empathy, and inclusion. Our TLT (Think First, Love Second, Talk Third) initiative is a key part of this mission, aimed at eradicating hate speech and fostering a more compassionate environment for all.
What is TLT?
TLT is a guiding framework that encourages our students and community members to reflect deeply before they speak and act. It’s about recognizing the impact of our words and actions, especially when they may harm others. Hate speech—defined as offensive discourse targeting individuals or groups based on inherent characteristics such as race, religion, gender, or identity—threatens the social peace and unity we strive for at Kennedy.
How Does TLT Work?
The TLT process involves three crucial steps:
Restorative Justice Process
In instances where community members do not uphold the values of TLT, Kennedy employs a Restorative Justice Process. This approach focuses on repairing harm by providing an opportunity for those who have been harmed, and those who take responsibility for the harm, to come together to communicate, address, educate, and heal. The process involves our Dean of School, Brian Mullen, and DEI-B Director, Michael Brooks, working alongside students and staff to ensure a path forward that restores peace and strengthens community ties.
Through TLT, Kennedy Catholic aims to create a space where every student feels valued, respected, and heard, promoting unity and understanding in our Lancer family.
