At Kennedy Catholic we recognize that schools are microcosms of the society we live in. As such, our community is not an exception to the events, discrimination, racism, injustices, etc. that occur in our nation each and every day. With this knowledge comes the responsibility to play our part in ensuring diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) are at the forefront of everything we do. It is our responsibility to ensure that when Lancers leave our school, they are equipped with the skills needed to continue the necessary work of securing justice for all. 

 

This year, with the help of our community, we hired a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Director, Derek Sparks, started a DEI committee comprising a diverse faculty and staff, and founded The Lancer Way, a blog for all things DEI. Our goal for this blog is to create a brave space where people of all backgrounds, ages, races, abilities, etc. come together to share their stories, resources and engage in respectful, but challenging, dialogue so that we may grow and heal ourselves, our communities and our nation. 

 

Our first step in ensuring we create a brave space for meaningful conversations was to establish these 12 Keys to Effective Communication with our faculty, staff and students. These are posted throughout campus and act as a resource, and reminder, of the pledge we take to have meaningful conversations not only in-person but online as well.
