Affinity Groups

At Kennedy Catholic High School, affinity groups are established to foster belonging, support, and empowerment among students who share common identities or experiences related to race, ethnicity, gender, culture, or other social factors. Affinity groups provide meaningful spaces for students to connect, celebrate diversity, and engage in dialogue about their lived experiences within the broader social context.

This distinction as an affinity group also brings with it specific requirements, such as regular meeting schedules, active participation in school-wide events, and a focus on cultural enrichment. The goal of affinity groups is not only to provide social connection but also to contribute to the cultural, spiritual, and educational fabric of Kennedy Catholic High School.

While affinity group membership may be dependent upon the students' cultural and racial background, student leaders eagerly share that allyship and genuine curiosity is often welcomed into the space.

Why aren’t all meetings open for anyone to attend? Many gatherings, such as potlucks or collaborative community events, are often considered open for anyone to attend. However, part of what makes affinity groups sacred is the safe space they create for people who share a common identity. In some cases, it is important for meetings to include only rostered members so participants can speak freely from personal experience, find solidarity in shared stories, and discuss social issues that impact their identities.
