Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, & Belonging
MEET THE DIRECTOR
Dear Kennedy Catholic High School Community,
I am humbled to step into the role as Kennedy Catholic's new Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB). I am deeply honored to be entrusted with continuing the long and important legacy of DEIB work that is a constant cornerstone of this institution.
Kennedy Catholic's DEIB journey is an ongoing cultivation, a seed planted decades ago that continues to blossom today. As outlined in our Verso L'alto! strategic plan, our focus remains on fostering a vibrant and diverse student body that reflects a wide range of ethnicities, cultures, socioeconomic backgrounds, learning styles, and geographic locations. This diversity will enrich our educational environment and prepare our students for a globalized world.
Here are some key areas where we will concentrate our efforts:
- Expanding student body diversity: We will continue to actively admit students from diverse backgrounds, ensuring Kennedy Catholic reflects the rich tapestry of our society.
- Global understanding: We will integrate a global perspective into the curriculum, fostering a broader life understanding for all students.
- Faculty diversity: We will recruit and retain highly qualified faculty members who bring their unique experiences and backgrounds to the classroom.
- Equity Team: We will establish a dedicated Equity Team with clear goals and directives to ensure equitable opportunities for all students.
- Student support programs: We will expand and strengthen our support programs to increase student retention and success.
- Resource accessibility: We will create strong partnerships with organizations committed to diversity and equity, ensuring our resources are readily available to all students.
Throughout this journey, we will be guided by the powerful Catholic Social Teaching on Solidarity: "We are one human family, whatever our national, racial, ethnic, economic, and ideological differences. We are our brothers and sisters' keepers, wherever they may be."
I am confident that by working together, we will continue to create an inclusive and welcoming environment for all members of the Kennedy Catholic community. I look forward to meeting you, hearing your stories, and collaborating to cultivate a truly exceptional learning environment that celebrates diversity and empowers all students to flourish.
Sincerely,
Michael L. Brooks, Jr.
Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging
