- Issue 1
Our community is constantly trying new things, getting pushed out of our comfort zones, and learning about the world and ourselves along the way - with a camera ready to capture these moments.
Published photos are taken by the development office staff or submitted by teachers, students, and community members. In this issue, we share photos from Cambodia, science labs, summer band, Centurylink Field, Mass of the Holy Spirit, and more.
This past summer, Lancer students had the opportunity to travel to Cambodia, Australia and Ireland as part of Kennedy Catholic’s immersion travel experiences. Service learning is pivotal for our students, opening their minds to new world views and building confidence. Students on the Cambodia immersion trip recounted their experiences through an online blog published daily. They shared stories about the connections they made, the importance of travelling the world and the renewed value they hold for simple living.
Every day, there are exciting things happening in our science department. This school year, students created lotion following required drug industry regulations and controls, designed islands and then made topographic maps, tested to see if yeast uses sugar to metabolize, and so much more! Follow along on our social media to see more science updates and experiments.
We opened our Lancer football season at CenturyLink Field with an astounding win over Bethel High School. International students attended the game with lots of Lancer pride. The night was complete with performances from our band, cheer team and appearances from Seahawks players and dance team. To top it all off, the game was televised live on ESPNU gaining coverage nationwide. With the football season now well underway (the Lancers are undefeated), we encourage you to attend a game to experience the true spirit of Lancer Nation.
Our first mass of the year was lively and engaging, led by our new chaplain, Fr. Jim Northrop and our talented Praise Band. We are excited about the energy Fr. Jim brings to our students, encouraging them to seek the Holy Spirit for direction during the joyful and trying times in their life. The all-student Praise Band, under supervision of Mr. Patulot, brings contemporary worship to our masses and are always a hit.
This year, we welcomed one of our largest incoming Freshmen classes ever, the class of 2023, with 230+ students. Their first days on campus were filled with games, ice breakers and spirited campus tours hosted by Lancer Link Crew. Each student was welcomed through a traditional gauntlet of cheering students and staff, which will come full circle during their final days of senior year at Kennedy Catholic.
Elementary Band Camp was a success this July! Our young musicians, representing all nine Catholic elementary schools, studied harmony via the musical periods. Veterans return this year to polish their skills and new students are excited for the challenge ahead!
We know that senior year can sometimes feel a bit overwhelming for students. Senior Brunch happens just before the first day of school and is a great time for students to connect, bond and reflect before beginning their last year of high school. This year, Haydon Clifton ’16, Sofia Lopez and Luke Janicki spoke to Lancers about valuing time with friends, focusing on academics and cherishing the last moments of high school. We can’t wait to see what the Class of 2020 accomplishes this year.
Over the summer, Senior Gracie S. participated in the Western Aerospace Scholars program in Tukwila, WA and spent 9 weeks working full time at Boeing. Gracie said, "Western Aerospace Scholars has given me both a solid academic foundation and the guidance necessary to put me on a successful path in the aerospace industry."
Dozens of Lancer art students submitted their work to the Washington State Fair for judging. This year, we had over 30 students take home awards, with 4 'Best in Show' awards. Click here for a full list of award winners. Congratulations!
Even without students in the hallways, summer is a busy time on campus. Our facilities team works tirelessly to ensure the school is in top notch condition for our Lancer students and athletes. This summer, a new track was installed at Eisiminger Field - a much needed upgrade. In addition, our International dormitory received a full makeover, complete with new paint, carpeting and more! Residents were thrilled to move into the new and upgraded space in August.
