Visual Arts
2D Art & Graphic Design
Drawing, Painting, & Printmaking
Our goal is to build the skills and visual knowledge in order to communicate and connect with the world. There is no better way to work through the brainstorming, visualization, and communication/expression process than to use 2-D mediums. We use drawing mediums, painting mediums, as well as the use of relief and etching processes in order to create effective and lasting images. This course serves as a foundation for the IMADE center.
Graphic Design
This course introduces students to the tools and processes involved with designing for today’s media landscape. Projects are designed to learn the software while tapping into their creativity to produce professional quality digital art. As part of the IMADE program, students will have the opportunity to apply their newly acquired skills in collaborative projects in the advanced Design Thinking class.
Photography & Film
Film
Storytelling is universal, and film is our most immersive way to experience stories. Students in this class will work on a variety of film projects including action sequences, music videos, silent films, documentaries, remakes, and more. We will explore creative techniques and camera equipment for producing professional quality digital videos that engage and inspire.
Digital Photography, Intro/Advanced
Our world is increasingly a visual world. With the continuing development of tools and platforms to create and share images, the ability to create professional quality, expressive images and think critically about the images that we see is essential. In Digital Photography, we produce images with our phones, SLR cameras, studio lighting setups, and the industry standard Photoshop program. We use in-house professional quality printers to produce and display the work as well as creating individual photography websites. These classes work seamlessly with all aspects of the IMADE program.
3D Art
In graphic design we focus on the art and technology behind some of the brands, games, artists, or social media stars that they’re into. The goal is to teach students the tools that will allow them to tap into their creativity to produce professional quality digital art. As part of the IMADE program, students will have the opportunity to apply their newly acquired skills in collaborative projects in the advanced Design Thinking class.
3D Design
This course is designed to incorporate art, design, and technology skills to create a variety of 3-Dimensional objects and products. Students will have an opportunity to utilize resources including traditional art supplies, CAD software, hand/power tools, and rapid prototyping equipment.
Design Thinking
This course available for students who have previously taken at least one visual arts/digital arts/CTE course. Students will be tasked with developing products (individually or as a group) using all available art, design, and manufacturing tools including basic prototyping tools, CAD software, 3D printers, laser cutter, vinyl cutter/printer, CNC mill, CNC router, and traditional woodworking power tools.
IMADE Center
Innovation • Manufacturing • Art • Design • Engineering
Welcome to IMADE, a student-centered hub for design, innovation, and creation. The IMADE space provides a high-tech, hands-on, creative environment dedicated to encouraging and challenging students’ imaginations as they experiment, build, and invent, all supported with a STEAM curriculum with design-thinking embedded at its core. Learning in the IMADE space will inspire students to become independently capable of expressing creative confidence and curiosity within their environment. Teaching and learning occur throughout a fluid, interdisciplinary, hands-on process. Kennedy Catholic’s IMADE space instills critical thinking and a maker’s mindset through a series of creative experiences while simultaneously building current, in-demand, marketable skills. The use of technical tools fosters innovation through thinking, modeling, and making. Through the sounds of “I made this,” we are building tomorrow’s leaders, today.
