Technology Services Program - Kennedy Catholic High School

For the 2024-2025 School year, Kennedy Catholic High School will begin phasing in an entirely new Technology Services Program starting with the Class of 2028. For the past four years, Kennedy Catholic has maintained a BYOD (bring your own device) model for student devices. After careful consideration of our experience with BYOD and other models, we believe a service-oriented model is a better approach to serve our students' needs.

Our new model provides a full suite of services including a Kennedy Catholic-leased device, device maintenance and management, additional electronic content and content filtering, and a guarantee that every student will have equal access to high-quality devices at an affordable rate paid yearly during your student’s enrollment at Kennedy Catholic.

Why did we make this decision?

Equity

Every Kennedy Catholic student deserves the same access to a high-quality and affordable device that ensures compatibility with all coursework and curriculum. To meet this goal, Kennedy Catholic has initiated an innovative partnership with Apple to acquire devices for our students that include a remarkable four-year warranty only available to academic institutions that exceed anything available to the general public.

Our new Technology Services Program removes the stress of purchasing and maintaining one (or many) devices over the course of your student’s enrollment at Kennedy Catholic. Technical support, repairs, and replacements will all be handled by the fully-staffed Technology Department. This will be similar to bringing the Apple Store into the Red Lab right here in the school’s library.

Time Management

School-provided devices will include device management, where the Technology Department can pre-load content, configurations, printers, and Wi-Fi networks. This will reduce trips to the Technology Office for help with connectivity issues during class. This will also help teachers in assisting students and providing digital lessons when all students are using the same platform.

Kennedy Catholic provides technology to students in a service-oriented model. Students have access to a laptop, full coverage warranty, digital content, and full-service technical support. Services include the following:

13" MacBook Air
Current model: Apple MacBook Air 2024, M2 processor, 8gb RAM, 256GB hard drive
4-year full coverage warranty for hardware and OS
Accidental damage protection covering two hardware-related incidents per 12-month period with no service fees or deductible. Theft, loss, and purposeful damage are not covered by the warranty.

Mobile Device Management
Pre-configured Wi-Fi that does not require any user sign-on or passwords
24/7 content filtering and advanced security for acceptable use policy compliance on and off campus
Auto-configured OS and application updates
Automatic download and installation of school-provided apps, books, and curriculum
Single Sign-On (SSO) of any device using school-provided Microsoft 365 email accont
Microsoft 365 for Education
Kennedy Catholic email account provided by Microsoft 365
Enterprise Microsoft 365 accounts for use of any Microsoft Office application, including: Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, and many more
1 TB of OneDrive cloud storage that can be accessed seamlessly on student laptops and devices
Full-service technology assistance
Full device support for all Kennedy Catholic-owned student devices
Limited support for personal devices when family-approved and warranty not voided
On-site staff trained and certified to work with Apple hardware and software
In-house replacement inventory and loaner devices
Kennedy Catholic's Technology Staff facilitates all warranty/replacement issues directly with Apple on behalf of the student. Includes coordination with Apple support, shipping/receiving and device replacement as needed

Starting with the 2024-2025 school year, each student will pay $400 per year for the new Technology Services Program. This cost will cover the device as well as the services listed above. The fee may be paid in full at enrollment or monthly as part of tuition.* The computer is leased from Apple by Kennedy Catholic High School and will be returned when the student leaves Kennedy Catholic.

*The fee may be paid monthly ($34/mos.) if a family is on a monthly tuition payment plan.

Students in the Class of 2025, 2026 and 2027 will continue with the BYOD (bring your own device) Program they began when entering Kennedy Catholic.

Families are responsible to provide a laptop for their student based on the minimum required specification. Any Windows or Mac laptop that meets the device specifications will do. No tablets or Chromebooks are allowed, as they are incompatible with some of the software needed by students

Should a family wish to participate in the new Technology Services, Kennedy Catholic will work with the family of any student in the Classes of 2025, 2026, or 2027 on an individual basis. Please contact techsupport@kennedyhs.org for more information.
