Instrumental Music
The Instrumental Music classes of the Fine Arts Department endeavor to cultivate an understanding and appreciation of the affective dimensions of humankind, as expressed in orchestra, band and jazz literature.
• Who can play in the Chamber Orchestra?
Orchestra instrumentation includes Violin, Viola, Cello and Bass. The school provides instruments for bass and cello players.
• I want to compete in athletics. Can I take music at the same time?
Yes, of course. Sports and music are compatible. Music classes are taken during the school day, while interscholastic sports take place after school. Students do not have to opt for one or the other. They can participate in both. Over two thirds of the current music students currently participate in a JV or varsity sport.
• How do I find out more about band and orchestra?
“Welcome to Orchestra and Band Day” is held for all incoming instrumental students the second Saturday of May. The event consists of tours of the campus, demonstration of music facilities, orientation, and some playing.
• Does Kennedy Catholic offer a summer music session?
Incoming band students are encouraged to participate in Kennedy Catholic’s Summer Band Program. This marching unit competes in parades and festivals during the summer months, giving students a head start on their high school music career. Students who do not play a band instrument are invited to participate by performing in the Color Guard. Registration information will be available this spring.
