Background

Michael Edelbrock was born and raised in Southern California. He attended Catholic elementary and high schools, graduating in 1967 from Pomona Catholic Boy's High School. It was in high school that Mr. Edelbrock's interest in Science was confirmed by several excellent Science teachers. He studied at California State Polytechnic College for two years before transferring to Seattle University where he graduated in 1972 with a bachelors degree in education, with a concentration on General Science Education.
 
In 1973, Mr. Edelbrock was assigned by the Peace Corps to teach Science in a secondary school on the island of Antigua in the Eastern Caribbean. During his four year tour of duty Mr. Edelbrock taught General Science, "O" level Biology, Chemistry, Human Biology and Economics. He helped found the Antigua School for the retarded, he taught at the Teacher Training College, helped plan the Science curriculum for the Ministry of Education, ran two Boy Scout Troops and did staff work for Peace Corps.

In 1978, Mr. Edelbrock joined the faculty at Villa Academy, as a Science teacher. While at the Villa, he has taught Science to students in grades five to eight, as well as a teaching variety of other subjects. These include: Typing, Literature, Religion, Computers, Urban Wildlife, Physical Science and Advanced Biology. He was the Assistant Headmaster for a period of six years and Acting Headmaster for several months in 1985. In 1997 he became the Middle School Director for the Villa, a position he held until September 2000 when he joined the Faculty at Kennedy.

Currently, Mr. Edelbrock is the Department Chair for Science at Kennedy Catholic, he teaches Sophomore Biology, moderates the Sound and Light Team, Coordinates the Faculty Focus Groups for school improvement and facilitates the Lancer Period Plus student mentoring program. Finally, he is working with the administration and faculty in preparation for the upcoming accreditation cycle.

Mr. Edelbrock has continued to update his skills by taking classes from: Seattle Pacific University, Seattle University and the University of Washington, as well as attending professional workshops and conferences.
